We have a wonderful learning opportunity for all Garden at the Rez gardeners coming up — Jess & Amy of Fresh City Farms will be coming to The Rez to lead us in a two-hour introduction to gardening workshop. This will be a great opportunity to learn about the basics of organic gardening and have some questions answered.
Date: Tuesday, May 8, 7-9pm
Location: The Rez (1100 Woodbine Avenue)
Workshop Description: Spring is upon us and it’s time to dig in! In this two-hour workshop Jess and Amy will guide you through plant selection, planting timing, companion planting, harvesting and getting the most out of a small space. We will also look at how to take care of those lovely plants in terms of good health, watering and keeping them fed. There will be plenty of time for questions, conversation and discussion about you planting challenges and triumphs.
Workshop Presenters: Jess and Amy are both city farmers. Amy has experience interning at Everdale Farm and is now a farmer with Fresh City Farms! She hopes to have her own farm one day. Jess is newer to City Farming but has been learning, observing and growing in smaller plots for a number of years. Jess is currently working towards a certification in Horticultural Therapy along side her farming! Fresh City Farms is a social enterprise that supports local farmers and connects people with fresh, local, organic and fairtrade food. They farm all over the city using organic, sustainable techniques, with their main farm located at Downsview Park. The produce is sold through food box subscriptions and farmers markets.
Fee: Pay-What-You-Can (suggested donation $5 to $10 per person)
