Garden Q & A

What is Garden at the Rez?
A Community Garden serving the Woodbine and Danforth neighborhood in Toronto’s East End. In 2014 we will continue offering the opportunity for local community members to have their own individual plot within the garden. The garden was run as a pilot project  in 2011 with 3 raised beds and grew tomatoes, zucchinis, beans, chard and a variety of flowers. It was so successful that we decided to expand the garden into the rest of the space beside the church in 2012.

Who runs the Garden at the Rez?
Garden at the Rez is organized by the Garden at the Rez Committee. The committee administrates the garden, works to resolve disputes, and organizes community events. Garden at the Rez’s lead partner is the Church of the Resurrection (The Rez), where the garden is located. To contact the committee, please email us at

What will the Garden at the Rez provide?
Garden at the Rez committee will ensure that each gardener has access to a raised bed filled with soil. We also have a water supply and garden hose that can be used to water your garden. We will offer a variety of community tools that can be shared among the gardeners. Priority for available garden plots will be given to those without access to garden space.

What will each gardener provide?

Gardeners are asked to provide their own seeds or seedlings for their plot and any additional soil improvements that they require (mulch, compost etc.). Gardeners are asked to participate in at least 2 work days per season in addition to the regular plot maintenance as required.

How much does it cost to join?

Gardeners will be asked to pay a yearly membership fee of $20 to help with the general maintenance of the site.

How much time would I need to spend in the garden every week?

Garden at the Rez will ask that every gardener spend enough time in his or her garden plot so that each plot is properly maintained, watered, and kept as weed free as possible. We hold several community gatherings throughout the year that we encourage gardeners to participate in as they’re able. Visit our website for more information on community events.

How do I get a space at Garden at the Rez?
Email for an application form. There are some community plots available for 2014; priority will be given to community members without access to garden space.

Can I garden with someone else?

Yes! If you would like to share a plot with a friend or a neighbour, please submit your application form together and then you can share in the work and your subsequent harvest!
